Everything on your body when diving causes drag. Drag takes energy to move through the water. Energy costs you precious air under the water.
Notice your BCD on your body. The material around your shoulders that extends to the lower side of your body is actually a giant scoop under the water. One on each side grabs a lot of water and draws it in towards your body. Takes a lot of energy to push against the scooping. Consider a travel or back inflate BCD. They only have straps over your shoulders and no side portions that become giant scoops. Easier to show you in person.
Stow that item. Whether it is a signal buoy, flashlight, camera, it causes drag. Many items can be stowed in a pocket. If your BCD doesn't have pockets you can add them easy to a strap or belly band. Some wetsuits even have velcro pockets you can add.
Lose a hose or two. No more gauges dangling on the coral or having to be fastened to your side. Becoming more the norm today, divers are eliminating hoses by using equipment that accomplishes more than one task. Example is replacing your BCD inflater with a 2nd air source that doubles as your Octo. You lose the 2nd hose and the Octopus regulator all together. Less items to service, less money, less weight to travel with, and less gear.
Hose less computer. Modern computers use small transmitters to send all pressure information to a computer on your wrist. No gauges, no hose, and less for you to worry about. Tried and true for more than 30 years they can be trusted.
Once you glide through the water less encumbered by all the stuff you will want to come in and hug me for sharing. Have fun.
