Born of Passion

Landlocked in Colorado, Freddy was exposed to the underwater world early by watching Sea Hunt and the Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau. During a 5 year visit he became the youngest certified diver in California in 1971 at the age of 11 years old.  His grandfather was a "frogman" in the Navy and was the first ever to dive to 500 feet!  You could say it runs in the family. 

Joined the Navy and went on to become a Search and Rescue diver. Ultimately Freddy purchased a dive shop in Arvada Colorado. But his passion for scuba diving couldn't be contained there. His wife and 4 children all got certified. Owning a shop helped Freddy understand that some gear is good and some is terrible. Yet people often bought the junk online.  He wanted to reach more people to share his love for the sea and diving and help people avoid the junk. He did some reviews in the Bahamas for numerous brands and the response was tremendous. So Freddy started reviewing as many products as he could get his hands on. It struck him that the worst reviews were the ones that people were the most appreciative of. Saving them from making a mistake. 

"I believe I can make the dive industry better." How exactly? Well, there is crappy gear being sold out there. The companies make a giant profit, and the customer gets screwed.  We review products and tell the no BS truth about the gear, and you don't have to make the mistake of buying junk!

Equipment Reviews  

We really are all divers here and we test, demo and dive with every product we can. This allows us to accurately share our "No BS" opinion with people to help them make informed decisions. Our approach to the equipment reviews are - If you were a relative or best friend, what would we share with you about a piece of gear?  If we rate a product low on the B.A. (Bad Ass) scale, we know you won't purchase it. Exactly the goal!!!  Until the product is made better, then we don't want you to waste your hard earned money by purchasing it.  

Manufacturers do react to public opinion when the $$$ go away.  We feel that sharing the truth about the different products will help you to purchase quality rather than junk. Our goal is to earn your trust and protect you from costly mistakes.  We believe we are doing the manufacturer a favor by highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of their product.  It is a slow process, but manufacturers are listening. Changes in products as a result of our reviews have resulted. Many now send us products to demo and give them our professional opinion prior to releasing to the public. 

We care. 

Yeah we know, everybody says that. But you have a BS detector in your head, and you can tell when they are just saying it or if they mean it. Well,  words mean little and action demonstrates the truth in our hearts. Not sure why we care so much... maybe our mama raised us right. But, we take pride in doing the right thing and we sleep good at night. Our style has been called "Radical Honesty".
